Your first session, at your pace
It’s natural to feel unsure before starting therapy. Your first appointment is a chance to get to know your therapist, share what brings you here, and begin exploring what support could look like.

01 / Before We Meet
Before your appointment
Review any instructions or forms provided with your booking. Confirm the session format and location, and check your insurance coverage for your chosen clinician. It can help to note what prompted you to seek support and any questions you want to ask.
02 / Getting to Know You
During your first session
Your therapist will begin getting to know you, explore what brings you to counselling, and discuss your goals. This is also an opportunity to ask about their approach, consent, confidentiality, and the limits of confidentiality. You can share at a pace that feels manageable and let your therapist know if you need a pause.
Preparing for a virtual session
Choose a private, comfortable space and check your internet connection, camera, and microphone. Have headphones and water nearby if helpful. Follow the connection instructions provided by the clinic and contact us if you need help accessing your appointment.
You don’t have to know where to start
Feeling nervous, emotional, or unsure is okay. You can tell your therapist exactly that. The first session is a starting point, not a test, and you don’t need to share every part of your story at once.
